Matchy Crafts!

Matchy Crafts!

MatchyGotchy Z™ became a whole new game because we wanted to add more to MatchyGotchy™. Eventually, this led on to MatchyGotchy Pack™ as a DLC instead.

When explored ideas to have a DLC for MatchyGotchy™, we first thought of what most developers already offer: a cosmetic pack of some sort. However, we had this whole new game coming called MatchyGotchy Z™, so we felt this might fall short in comparison – one cute hat is no match for a monster store with more than just hats. We opted to consider a different idea, like paper crafts.

MatchyGotchy™ was originally planned as an entry point to the Matchyverse™. We have already designed a bunch of fun game ideas around Matchy Star™, so the idea of paper toys would fit in with the whole theme of casual and fun.  Paper models are easy to put together, they are original to the game aesthetics, and most important of all, they are quite accessible to buy too.

In MatchyGotchy Pack™ there is a digital comic called “Game Development Stories” in which I share the story of how Matchy Star™ happened as some sort of a silly comic / fairy tale in which Sporkie, Silverware Games™ logo pet, tells the story to Stardust, MatchyGotchy Z™ new companion.

Regarding the paper designs – It has a paper craft booklet, with the profiles of all seven stars: Matchy Star™, Spacey Galaxy, Speedy Sputnik, Doctor UFO, Guru Moon, and Pirate Planet. I designed it as a tiny little book that closes into a tiny box and opens as an accordion. Also included, there is an original paper model of MatchyGotchy™ laboratory, and in here you can swap all seven pets whenever you want. And all of this comes with a Silverware Games paper stand as well, so you can display your MatchyGotchy™ diorama on your desk.

And last but not least – it includes a MatchyGotchy™ Manual, a digital PDF that you can print too if you’d like. It brings a total of 12 pages of Matchy colorful cuteness showcasing the paper models, studio notes, and a thank you note from us silly developers.

And speaking of MatchyGotchy Pack™, I must write a heartfelt thanks to Polarized Moon. He made a casual Friday video named Crafting Stars, where he put together the entire paper set as he recorded it all, step by step –  quite helpful as a video guide to make the paper models. Every printable PDF in MatchyGotchy Pack™ has instructions, but Polarized Moon’s video and commentary are quite priceless. Thank you Polarized Moon for the support and kindness you constantly share with us, it does make a world of difference to us.

You should check out Polarized Moon YouTube channel, he’s a lovely friend of the Matchyverse™ community, supporting indie games one video at a time. Also, he is that sort of good and kind hearted people we very much need in this world.

MatchyGotchy Pack™ was a project that feels very close to my heart. I am quite thankful that Silverware Games would allow me to explore MatchyGotchy™ paper designs as I am a big papercraft enthusiast.  I wasn’t expecting much of it at first – some developers place an empty donation DLC option, but I wanted to give something as a thank you in case they wanted to support the studio that way. It was a pleasant surprise to realize there is interest in unusual fun like paper toys, which means I will be making more for sure. I will be providing some designs for people who sign up to our mailing list to ease people into the wonder that is paper crafts, which we shall now call Matchy crafts!

If you would like to support Silverware Games™ while we continue to make games, then please consider checking out MatchyGotchy Pack™ on Steam.
