Of Spooky and Cutes!

Halloween is that one time of the year where candy, costumes, and spooks come together. This year, MatchyGotchy brought all that and the cuteness with a spooky seasonal update, and a bunch of Halloween doodles!

This marks our second seasonal update and third big update of the year! Back in February we put together a Valentine’s Day special, then we did a big build update in September, and now this lovely spoopy Halloween Special. And we are looking forward to the Christmas Special too!

With every MatchyGotchy seasonal update we have things that stay and things that go. We include special effects, add new faces and update activities, like including a seasonal selfie screen. While the effects and the screens are temporary for the seasonal update, the faces are a permanent update and now we have almost 40 silly faces for each pet now that’s way over 200 different photos you can take with your stars. The screens seem to be the most liked part of the seasonal updates, that’s why we decided to make them alternate with different colors and different faces so people would have a random chance to customize their selfies and make it more fun.

We also decided to include a whole new set of artwork to go along with this month seasonal update. I love participating in community events, so things like Inktober and Drawlloween are a lot of fun for me. Sadly, #Inktober can be somewhat demanding in terms of material costs, and #Drawlloween tends to be a bit constricted by following specific calendar of things to do each day. That’s why about a year ago I created something called SpoopShow. There are no rules, just fun – I set up a topic for each year, and just make sure to participate on it for the month.

This year I asked Michael if I could do Matchy Star as the topic, he thought it was a great idea, so we incorporated it as part of MatchyGotchy Halloween celebration! This is their very first Halloween, so they tried their best – check out MatchyGotchy cuties putting together their best spooky costumes.

Seasonal updates bring a surge of data for us that behaves differently from sales. Unlike launch spikes, traffic competes with engagement which is something we are trying to cultivate with our community. We appreciate people sharing their artwork and screenshot with us, we love when they reach out to us to ask us about updates or simply give us ideas – we appreciate community feedback, and more importantly so, their kindness and support.

We find joy in seeing others enjoy what we do, and much more so when they become people who consistently push you to do more and to do better. Hope you enjoyed this Halloween Special, looking forward to Christmas updates now!
